Wellfield Manager Job Profile:

Our client, an innovative mining company, is seeking an experienced Wellfield Manager to lead their drilling team in the SW US. This is an excellent opportunity to lead the development and implementation of drilling operations, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees and contractors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising wellfield drilling activities at an in-situ recovery (ISR) operation, which includes the construction of a new wellfield including well installation, delineation, & exploration (casing, cementing, overseeing all drilling activities) airlifting, drill pits, and drill pit reclamation.
  • Managing contractors, supervising wellfield employees, assisting with wellfield planning, purchasing, budgeting, statistical reporting and effectively working with other departments to maximize copper production.
  • Ensuring commitment to safety and environmental compliance.


Specific Responsibilities Include:                                        

  • Supervise wellfield casing crews, allocate heavy equipment utilized in the processes, MIT (Mechanical integrity testing), and ensure that workers are properly trained.This position directly supervises the Wellfield Casing & Airlifting /Cementing Crews, equipment operators for drilling pits, and MIT operators. Coordinate drilling contractors during their daily activities.
  • Work productively and communicate effectively with contract drillers and other contractors and contractor’s employees associated with the departments and co-workers.
  • Oversee installation of the wells from start to finish. (Pilot, ream/case, underreaming/well development.)
  • Maintain equipment utilized in well installation, procure supplies and materials needed for the jobs.
  • Contract and secure materials for future well installations and other drilling projects.
  • Keep up to date on new viable technologies to help improve overall well installation efficiency including alternative casing, cement and other drilling consumables while improving penetration rates ultimately leading to reduced wellfield development costs.
  • Maintain budget controls including forecasting expenditures.
  • Other duties as required.

 
Qualifications & Education:

  • 5 years of experience directly supervising drill rigs including drilling operations, and installation of wells, preferably in ISR wellfields.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials, metallurgy, hydrology, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of well installation methods.
  • Knowledge of muds and polymers utilized in the drilling process.
  • Knowledge of airlifting, jetting, and developing wells to achieve designed flow rates.
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must have working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Well installation methods.
  • Must be organized and able to manage and resolve multiple priorities at the same time.


Work Environment:

  • This position will include office work, but some work will be performed in all-weather conditions outdoors.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must work in compliance with the client’s site safety program.
