 Job Overview

Our client is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their Reno office and play a leadership role in the accounting department. This is a crucial position with a fast-track path (with proven performance) to becoming the Controller. The Senior Accountant will manage full-cycle accounting operations and be a key contributor to financial reporting, budgeting, and international business processes.

This role requires a detail-oriented professional capable of leading a small accounting team, managing U.S. and international financial operations, and providing insights that drive the company’s financial success.  Key Responsibilities

  • General Ledger Management: Ensure accurate and timely financial records while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, providing management with insights on financial performance.
  • International Accounting: Handle accounting for international projects, including multi-currency transactions, ensuring compliance with U.S. and foreign regulations.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop annual budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis to guide business decisions.
  • AP & Payroll Oversight: Supervise a Junior Accountant responsible for accounts payable and payroll, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead closing processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Audit & Internal Controls: Prepare for external audits and maintain strong internal controls.
  • Tax Compliance: Coordinate with external CPAs for timely and accurate tax filings, managing day-to-day tax-related matters.
  • Client Billing: Manage invoicing for laboratory, engineering, and field projects, ensuring accuracy and timely collections.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement accounting process enhancements for improved efficiency and accuracy.

 Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Experience with international accounting and project-based accounting preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage).
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for engaging with leadership and mentoring junior staff.
  • Experience managing multi-currency transactions is a plus.
