Position: Metallurgist 

Location: Northeastern United States

Our client is seeking a skilled and innovative metallurgist to join its underground zinc and graphite mining operations in the historic mining district of Northeastern United States. With over 80,000 acres of mineral rights, this operation supports high-grade zinc production and the newly explored graphite project, offering an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge mineral processing and contribute to the company’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.

The company is dedicated to building long-term value through sustainable resource development, operational excellence, and industry-leading practices. The Metallurgist will play a pivotal role in optimizing processes for both zinc and graphite, advancing operational goals and contributing to the development of a strategic graphite project aimed at meeting growing demand in the battery market.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee quality control for assay labs and mill operations, optimizing recovery processes for both zinc and graphite.
  • Innovation & Process Improvement: Conduct tests on new ore bodies and chemicals, focusing on maximizing recoveries of high-grade zinc and battery-grade graphite.
  • Sustainable Development: Collaborate with Environmental teams to ensure compliance with water quality, discharge, and tailings management standards, supporting the company’s sustainability goals.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with various departments to enhance workflow, minimize disruptions, and meet rigorous health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Manage and mentor mill personnel, including mill supervisors, millwright leads, and laboratory technicians, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and professional growth.

 Potential Projects

  • Developing advanced metallurgical techniques to optimize extraction of both zinc and graphite, contributing to the company’s goal of becoming a domestic supplier of battery-grade graphite.
  • Innovating quality control processes in the assay lab to ensure product consistency for both zinc concentrate and high-purity graphite.
  • Implementing sustainable practices to manage and recycle process water, aligning with environmental stewardship goals.
  • Exploring methods to enhance graphite flake size and purity, meeting the demands of the evolving battery market.
  • Leading interdisciplinary teams to enhance production throughput and ensure seamless integration of zinc and graphite processing streams.

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering (preferred).
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in metallurgical or mineral processing roles, ideally within the mining industry.
  • Strong understanding of milling, flotation, and maintenance operations, with an emphasis on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with computer software for data analysis (word processing, spreadsheets, databases) and process modeling software is a plus.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational, analytical, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

  • Competitive salary range: $90,000 - $150,000, based on experience and qualifications.
