General Manager of Processing

Our client, a leading producer of anthracite coal in the United States, is seeking a skilled General Manager of Processing to oversee the daily operations of four coal processing plants. This dynamic role requires close collaboration with plant foremen to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe operations while meeting production targets and maintaining the highest quality standards. The General Manager of Processing will play a pivotal role in maximizing output and efficiency across all plants.

 Job Purpose

The General Manager of Processing will work closely with the site management team and report directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of processing plant operations, including safety, production, environmental compliance, and administrative functions. The successful candidate will drive the financial success of the operations through careful analysis, budgeting, and strategic planning. This position is crucial for delivering the team's strategic objectives in a practical, value-driven manner, aligned with the company’s commitment to excellence as the nation’s largest producer of anthracite carbon.

 

 Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Manage all aspects of processing plant operations, ensuring safety, production efficiency, environmental compliance, and effective administration.
  • Efficiency Optimization: Collaborate with the site management team to optimize plant efficiency and maximize production output.
  • Safety Management: Implement and maintain rigorous safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of all plant operations.
  • Environmental Compliance: Ensure all processing activities comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategies to meet annual production targets and enhance long-term operational performance.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze operational data to identify opportunities for improvement, implementing changes to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Financial Management: Prepare and manage budgets, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall financial objectives and meeting financial goals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with plant foremen and other site managers to ensure consistent and high-quality output across all processing plants.
  • Project Leadership: Lead the planning and execution of projects aimed at improving plant processes, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Chief Operating Officer on plant performance, financial status, and operational challenges.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to enhance plant productivity and achieve operational excellence.
  • Strategic Delivery: Ensure the team’s strategic objectives are delivered in a practical, value-added manner that aligns with the company’s mission as the leading anthracite producer.

 Potential Projects You May Work On

  • Leading a plant-wide efficiency improvement initiative to reduce operational costs while maintaining quality standards.
  • Implementing new safety protocols and training programs across all processing plants to enhance workplace safety.
  • Overseeing the upgrade of plant infrastructure to support increased production capacity and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborating with environmental teams to introduce sustainable practices that exceed regulatory compliance.
  • Managing the integration of advanced production planning software to streamline operations and improve output predictability.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in a plant environment.
  • 5-10 years of progressive leadership experience with proven team leadership ability.
  • Experience in coal processing or related industrial environments is preferred.
  • Strong financial skills, including analysis, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • High level of attention to detail with a result-oriented, strategic focus.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport at all levels of an organization.
  • Adaptability to changing needs and circumstances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with production planning and scheduling software is considered an asset.
  • Professional demeanor when dealing with the public, community, regulatory agencies, and government officials.
