Vice President/Manager of Materials Management

Location: Colombia, South America

Our Client is seeking an experienced Vice President/Manager of Materials Management to lead the purchasing, importing, and warehousing functions for their operations in Colombia. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Materials in Birmingham, Alabama, this role is critical to ensuring seamless and efficient material processes that support large-scale mining operations.


About the Role

As the Vice President/Manager of Materials Management, you will oversee all material processes, including procurement, supply chain management, and inventory control. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure materials are sourced, imported, and stored efficiently to meet operational demands.

This is a leadership role requiring extensive expertise in materials management, purchasing, and importation processes. The position represents an opportunity to take charge of a high-performing team and optimize critical operations in a dynamic and challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee purchasing, importing, and warehousing functions to support mining operations.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and streamline import processes.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to align material processes with production goals.
  • Manage inventory to optimize storage, reduce costs, and ensure material availability.
  • Implement best practices in procurement and supply chain management to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Foster relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure high-quality materials and timely deliveries.
  • Mentor and develop department staff, including local Colombian team members.
  • Provide strategic insights to the Senior Vice President of Materials to guide long-term planning.

Potential Projects You May Work On:

  • Developing and implementing new importation processes to reduce lead times and costs.
  • Optimizing warehouse operations through technology and process improvements.
  • Negotiating vendor contracts to achieve cost savings without compromising quality.
  • Streamlining purchasing processes to align with organizational growth and operational needs.
  • Mentoring local Colombian team members and building future leadership within the department.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as business, supply chain management, or a technical discipline.
  • Extensive experience in purchasing, warehousing, and importing, preferably in a mining or industrial setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Knowledge of international trade regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Expertise in inventory management and warehouse optimization.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams and global suppliers.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience in large-scale industrial or mining operations.
  • Familiarity with supply chain technologies and best practices.
  • Spanish language skills (or willingness to learn).
